First snake and white stork of the year

This weekend we stayed at the house because of the beautiful weather. It was amazing to finally see blue skies, greenery, different coloured blossoms and an abundance of wildlife (plus listen to all the birdsong). It gave me chance to spend sometime in the forest where I can let my thoughts go and just absorb the ambient.

This morning we were sitting in the garden when we saw a huge white stork fighting with a snake. It’s a little early for reptiles so it was a bit of a surprise. My camera lens is now basically unusable due to all the scratches (Canon SX700HS – really not happy with it) so all the photos I’m taking, especially on full zoom like this one, are ruined. Still, you get the impression.

While I love seeing storks, after having problems with a mad one a few years back, my stomach churns when we get one in the garden. If they decide to nest in your chimney then they can’t be moved (and the nest can’t be removed until they’ve emigrated in Autumn). Because of the snake, I wore big wellington boots when I crossed the field to go to the forest today.
