Sometimes I get footage on my trailcam that I just can’t easily identify. On this occasion, I can definitely say it’s an eye – but to which creature does it belong? Due to its location it won’t be anything domesticated, and it’s definitely a predator of some description. The game camera was fastened to a tree looking down a slope into a creek with steep banks – a crossing point on a game trail. It was fastened about a foot and a half off the ground. Judging by the angle of the face/eye, the creature had to be right up against the lens and looking down into it (although that must have involved a certain amount of acrobatics due to the steep slope). For a size comparison, look at the video of the Inquisitive Beech Marten taken in the same location and with the same set-up.
I’m leaning towards a feline – either a young wild cat or a lynx kitten – but it could also be a weird alien mutant which likes lurking around mosquito- and wild boar-riddled bogs in the middle of the night…
