The druids used to leave messages to one another in a complicated leaf language using real leaves. As this language was never written down, modern man has no idea what it was. Also, passersby who were unversed in this leaf script would just see a pile of leaves rather than what they stood for. It was the perfect pre-industrial secret code.
Sometimes, when I’m deep in the forest I encounter oddities which stand out. This bizarre combination of feather (presumably owl or hawk) and leaf joined together with bird faeces and hanging on a branch made me think of the druids’ language. It also made me wonder if the secret denizens of the forest – creatures like the Leshy – use such a code. What it could possibly stand for I’ve no idea. Perhaps it marks scared territory?
Humm so I never thought about this before … I think… but there are some weird combinations / arrangements for sure
